Heirloom Tomato Doughnuts
Most of us would never think to combine a favorite morning dessert with heirloom tomatoes...but we did! Try this sweet twist on America's favorite pastry.
Ingredients
- Olive oil or avocado oil for frying
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 8 oz Organic Blended Heirloom Tomatoes Recommended: Yellow Roman Candle
- 1 tsp salt
- 5 tbsp butter
- 3/4 cups milk
- Powdered sugar for rolling
- Toppings
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add milk and Organic Blended Tomatoes to mixture. Mix until ingredients are combined. Transfer dough onto a floured flat surface. Knead dough into a ball and add flour where sticking. Taking 1 1/2 inch small pieces from larger ball, create small balls and set aside. Heat oil and fry small donut holes or traditional doughnut shape until golden brown. Place on paper towel for 30 seconds. Roll in powdered sugar and top with lemon zest or sun dried tomatoes for extra flavor.
